Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the classes held?
Middlesex Community College in downtown Lowell.

When are the classes?
Classes are held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  There are four classes in each series.

Do I have to take the course to get down payment assistance?
Yes.

How much does it cost to take the class?
There is a one time fee of $60 per household.

Do I automatically get down payment assistance if I take the class?
No. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements. Subject to the availability of funds.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes.  Upon completion of the four classes, each participant receives a “Certificate of Completion” which is in effect for one year.  If the certificate expires before a home is purchase, the course can be retaken for a fee of $20.

What are your office hours?
Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

What languages are available?
The classes are conducted in English and Spanish.

Is Project Genesis accredited?
Yes.  Our home buyer training program has a Seal of Approval from the Massachusetts Homeownership Collaborative.  It is also approved by MASSHOUSING, the Massachusetts Housing Partnership and HUD.

What lenders are associated with the program?
All lenders are welcome to participate.

Who can take the course?
Anyone.  The primary reason for taking the class is for its educational value.  People of all income levels benefit from the program.

Do I have to buy in specific communities?
You can buy anywhere you want.  However, it is important to check to see what mortgage and assistance programs are available in a particular city or town.
